3 Half-Assed Galadriels

So to pick up where I left off last week — I obviously ended up being SO GLAD we rescheduled our trip since our party canceled and the parks shut down on Friday! We’d have only had 1 park day and 1.5 days of stuck at Pop Century!! It still sucks missing my cousins but it looks like they still had a fun trip anyway.

I had already scheduled to take Friday off, so I sewed a little bit, hung out with mom, had lunch with her and dad, ran out to Joanns… that was nearly a giant waste of time. With no Hancock Fabrics anymore, my only options are Hobby Lobby or Joann – Joann is on the clear other side of town but they were having a pattern sale, I was off, so I went. It took me over a half hour to get down to Joanns – traffic was horrible. The store was crowded but I fought my way to the pattern drawers… only to find they didn’t have any of the newer patterns I was hunting for 🙁 I did finally find Yaya’s Boots/Gloves pattern that I’d been wanting (hooray for a new glove pattern option!) and that was on sale, so I got it. And I got the zipper I needed. While in the checkout line, I saw an abandoned pair of white satin gloves, so I grabbed them and used my 60% off coupon on them. That way I don’t have to wear my leather gloves at the Halloween party and if I lose them, no big deal.
Then 45 minutes back home. What a waste of an afternoon.

Friday night I made my own Disneyworld.

My glowing ice cubes I’ve collected served as the fireworks.

I also decided to throw some colour on some of the original 2002 SunDowner pages.

I redrew the face a bit and had a lot of fun doing the colouring there, but one thing is for certain my colouring skills have never been very good and haven’t improved very much. Especially on backgrounds. But it was fun to do.

I also did Britan but this time I left the background uncoloured.

I started on Madison but was having trouble redrawing his face.

Saturday I decided to do a make-up test run on Galadriel, which I’m wearing to Memphis Comic Expo weekend after next. Which led me to the sudden realization that I have now half-assed a Galadriel costume THREE TIMES in my “costume career.” Count them down…

1. 2002 Galadriel

ghettogaladriel

Using my loosely-interpreted 2002 Leia dress, a purple ribbon, and my She-Ra wig. I never wore this anywhere though, it was just for fun.

2. 2004 Galadriel

Galadriel

I was in a group for SDCC that already had a fantastic Arwen, so since my white Arwen was an original design, and I had a long blonde Godiva wig, I switched to Galadriel. So it’s literally just my white/silver Arwen dress/crown and a cheap blonde Godiva wig. The wig was trashed after that night though it eventually found a second life as the interior of my Marie Antoinette wig.

3. 2016 Galadriel

My Queen Aelsa (Thor) dress from last year, my Edith wig, and my Arwen crown.
When I was making Aelsa, it was reminding me SO MUCH of Galadriel, that when it came time to make the armor I made sure to make it in such a way that it wouldn’t harm the dress – ie, no velcro attachments on the dress or anything. Just in case I ever had the chance to use it as Galadriel… so when I got my Edith wig earlier this year I realized the time had finally come.
I didn’t have the right sleeve on right in this photo, and I didn’t have the dress zipped all the way up, either — couldn’t do it by myself and didn’t want to take it off and start over for the sleeve. But I’m pleased with it, it’ll be fun to wear, I just need to figure out footwear — prob just wear my Aelsa sandals or something. The wig also needs brushed.

Sunday, my parents left for their vacation so I went and picked up Kes, she is staying with us this week!

I’m so excited to have her staying with us! Unfortunately Luna is not. I didn’t expect Luna to react so negatively to Kes being in the house – they’ve stayed together at my parents’ house plenty of times before, and Luna even lived there with her the first 3 weeks after mom found her when she was trying to rehome her. (Before she came to us on a “week trial”, LOL) I guess it was just Kes coming into her space and I should have been a little more thoughtful about the way we brought Kes in.

Luna wedged herself behind the washer and only emerged later in the afternoon. Kes doesn’t care one jot, she’s not a cat chaser and really doesn’t care one way or the other about Luna. This was as close as they got yesterday before Luna ran back into hiding:

We kept Kes in the bedroom with us overnight so Luna has her run of the living room. And today has been better, while I was home for lunch Luna ventured out and stayed out much longer, getting up in the windowsill like normal and eating, though still be very wary of Kes.

Trying to take a selfie but getting a Kes kiss instead
